Love your neighbour as you love yourself. - Matthew 22:39
We are pleased to have been awarded accreditation by West Berkshire Council for Anti-Bullying “Safe in Our Hands”.
We are very proud to have been awarded the West Berkshire Anti-Bullying Accreditation. Mrs Burns and Mr Harvey went to the council offices to receive the award from District Councillor Peter Argyle. This is a real achievement for the school and we want to ensure that we continue to put children’s safety and needs at the top of our agenda.
St Nicolas participates in the annual Anti-Bullying Alliance, Anti-Bullying week. The children participate in lots of activities relating to bullying. In particular, they hopefully gain a greater understanding of the difference between relationship conflict and actual bullying.
Alex de Mayer, a Newbury Police Officer, comes in to talk to the children around the theme of being a good citizen (Y3) Internet safety (Y4&Y6) Personal safety (Y5).
The children start the SEAL topic ‘Say No To Bullying.’ We also look more closely at the children’s feeling about bullying by conducting a small survey. Last year we held a school poetry competition; the winning entries were forwarded to the Anti-Bullying Alliance National Competition and the overall Winner will featured in the West Berkshire Schools Anti-Bullying Newsletter. In ICT, the children began their e-safety modules, with specific lessons on cyber-bullying.
And finally, the School Voice begins this week with a focus on celebrating diversity and to discuss any particular issues bullying that may arise.
